A day with the Saints: Inspiration on and off the field Program participants recently enjoyed an exciting behind-the-scenes visit to St Kilda Football Club, giving them a rare chance to experience life inside an AFL club. The group toured the club’s facilities, including the Danny Frawley Centre, and watched players train up close. They also spent time on the oval having a kick of the footy and learning more about what happens behind the scenes in professional sport. “The trip was brilliant. Getting a tour of the building and seeing behind the scenes was amazing.” – Liam “I had a blast. It was great to meet the players and also hear about the mental health support players have access to.” – Skye One of the highlights of the day was meeting players, who generously took time to chat with the young people, answer questions and sign memorabilia. A special moment came when the group spoke with Alix Tauru, who grew up and played footy in Gippsland, and connected strongly with the participants. Alix spoke about the importance of having support and encouragement throughout life. “I think the Ladder program is great. Every young person is going to need some help at some stage. I was lucky to have great support at home, but it’s good to hear about Ladder and the support they offer young people in Gippsland” said Alix. “Meeting Alix was great. It’s cool to see locals playing in the AFL and inspiring to see that anyone around you can achieve anything.” – Jess The visit was hosted by Tony “Browny” Brown, Player Development Manager at the club, who praised the program and the positive impact it has on young people. “Absolutely, Ladder is a great program. Anything that helps young people engage is always a good thing” said Browny. The experience left a lasting impression on everyone involved. “I definitely enjoyed the day. The tour was the best part - it’s an experience more people should get to have.” – Paige “St Kilda was really fun. I enjoyed learning about the other side of footy… it showed me it’s not just about kicking a ball around.” – Celina The visit gave program participants a chance to learn about teamwork, wellbeing and the support systems that help people succeed - both on and off the field. Experiences like this help our participants build confidence, feel connected to their community, and see new possibilities for their future. Manage Cookie Preferences
