Last week, participants from our recent Ladder program in Gippsland gathered for a celebratory graduation to mark the completion of another successful program. Each graduate’s path was unique, based on self-identified goals and aspirations and they all came together and formed a powerful community built on support and friendship.

This program brought together a diverse group of young people, from natural leaders to quiet achievers, each contributing their own special talents and personalities to the collective success. Some were recognised for their warmth and teamwork, always creating a welcoming environment where others felt comfortable. Others brought boundless energy and a drive to inspire the group, showing determination and resilience in the face of challenges. What stood out most was the group’s unwavering commitment to supporting each other—whether it was offering a hand during gym sessions, keeping each other accountable to show up, or bonding over shared experiences like taking the bus together to pick up a fellow participant.

Throughout the program, the young people had the opportunity to engage in a variety of hands-on experiences - from volunteering at Morwell Neighbourhood House to participating in mock interviews, beach clean-up days, and trips to Maru Wildlife Park. These activities not only allowed them to develop important life skills but also created opportunities to push them beyond their comfort zones and explore new possibilities.

As they reached this graduation milestone, the participants were ready to take the next steps toward their future aspirations:

  • Some are planning to continue their education, with several looking into TAFE programs or apprenticeships, while others are returning to school to further their studies.
  • Many have already secured part-time jobs or are actively pursuing employment opportunities, with some partnering with organisations like Workways to assist in their job searches.
  • Others are exploring creative careers, applying for holiday casual positions, or pursuing careers in fields such as music, metalwork, or blacksmithing.
  • One participant, a young parent, is being connected with local groups to help navigate the challenges of balancing parenthood with personal growth.

Through it all, the group fostered a culture of mutual respect, accountability, and giving back to the community. They stayed focussed on their goals and one of the first steps they took was ensuring their life admin was up to date. Ladder Development Coaches were particularly impressed with the way the group communicated during mock interviews, demonstrating confidence, professionalism, and self-assurance.

Ladder is proud to have been part of their journey and will continue to support them as they take on the next chapters of their lives. With the confidence, skills, and connections they’ve built, the future looks incredibly bright for each of these young people, and there’s no doubt they will continue to achieve great things.
