Carlton Football Club welcome Ladder participants for an exclusive club tour and training viewing Last week, young people from the Ladder program were invited to attend an exclusive club tour and training viewing at Carlton Football Club. Participants headed up bright and early from Gippsland to IKON Park for a fun day out, learning more about the club and engaging with players. "Today showed me how powerful kindness can be. The club didn’t have to do all that for us, but they did – and I’ll never forget it." – Nick, 16 Participants were warmly welcomed by Carlton Player Development Manager Lil before heading on a behind-the-scenes tour of the facilities, from the team inner sanctum to the leisure and fitness areas. For our participants, it was a rare and exciting insight into the daily life of elite AFL players. Next up was something truly special: front-row seats to the team’s training session as they prepared for their clash against the West Coast Eagles. Watching the players and staff in action gave the participants a real sense of the discipline, teamwork, and their dedication to football. As training wrapped up, the participants gathered eagerly at the gate and were thrilled when the team made time to stop, chat, and share a moment with them. "I’m so grateful for today. I never thought I’d get the chance to be inside an AFL club, let alone meet the players!"- Josh, 16 "Everyone at Carlton was so nice – they really made us feel welcome. It meant a lot." – Makenzie, 16 The continuing support of the AFL industry and being the official charity of the AFL Players’ Association (AFLPA) enables Ladder young people to receive support without the stigma often associated with youth support services. This day was more than just a visit – it was a moment of motivation, showing these young people that they’re valued, supported, and capable of achieving their goals. "Meeting the players was sick. I realised they’ve worked hard for where they are – and I can too." -Anthony, 16 "This experience made me feel seen. It reminded me that good things can happen when you stay on the right path." – Emelia, 16 We would like to thank Carlton Football Club and all the staff and players for making it a such an unforgettable experience for our Ladder participants.
