After graduating from the Ladder program, participants automatically join the Ladder alumni program. This keeps them connected with Ladder peers, positive adult role models, mentoring and growth opportunities over the longer term.

Recently, Latrobe Valley alumni members who were dropping-in as required, expressed that they would benefit from some extra support. In response, Ladder created a three-week, alumni intensive program primarily focused on education, employment and training (EET) outcomes. This program would give alumni the opportunity to specifically work on and achieve their individual EET goals, while connecting with other like-minded individuals.

As the alumni had graduated from a previous Ladder program and self-referred into the intensive program, they understood program expectations and values and confidently hit the ground running.

"When I left the program the first time, I’d already changed so much — I had a routine, I had goals. But coming back gave me that next level. Ladder keeps me grounded and moving forward. I’ve been able to work on all my goals, both personal and professional"
Daphne, 18

“I came back to Ladder because they helped me achieve things I didn’t think were possible — like getting my first job and actually sticking with it. Now, I’m working towards a mechanic apprenticeship and applying for more jobs. Ladder supports me whenever I need it”
Rylee, 17

Over the course of the three weeks, participants engaged in a variety of activities designed to support their future success, including resume updates, mock interview practice, and job applications.

Each participant also identified and secured important life-admin essentials, such as tax file numbers, housing options, and setting up bank accounts. These tasks, often overlooked, are crucial steps toward achieving financial independence, stability and employment.

"At Ladder, I’m not just another number. They see me, they listen, and they push me to believe in myself. I’ve returned because I know this is where real growth happens — not just in getting a job or enrolling in a course, but in becoming the person I want to be."
Jazmine, 17

"It’s more than just a program — it’s a space where you can be yourself, grow at your own pace, and know you’re not alone. The environment here is so positive and real. That’s why I came back. I wanted to keep building, not just on paper, but in who I am."
Dom, 21

The group became a community, and the strength of the program were the relationships that were built between participants. They were able share knowledge, offer support and motivate one another to push towards their goals.

"Coming back to Ladder felt safe. The support doesn’t stop once you hit a milestone — they help you build on it. I’ve now got a steady part time job and an interview next week for potentially a full time role in a field I’m really interested in. I honestly don’t think I’d be here without them backing me the whole way."
Brooklyn, 19

The confidence of the alumni, the familiarity of the program and their willingness to participate made for a successful alumni intensive program. We want to congratulate each individual for achieving or getting closer to their EET goals with the additional support from Ladder. This group of participants are part of the 304 young people who have graduated from the program since 2017. We understand that not all pathways are linear so we have an open-door policy, where alumni can drop in or contact us at any time.
