Ladder Development Coaches work with each program participant to understand their employment goals.

We cover a range of topics through our learning development programs (LDPs) to ensure that participants have the confidence, skills and resources to become job ready.

Participants recently prepared their cover letters and resumes. This session emphasised how these documents serve as first impressions to potential employers, highlighting not just their experience but also individual strengths, accomplishments, and potential.

"Before today, I didn’t really know how to organise my resume, but now I feel like I have a real starting point that shows who I am and what I can bring to a job." – AJ, 19

The Development Coaches discussed that setbacks such as rejections or job search challenges are part of the journey. They emphasised the importance of building resilience to maintain motivation, learn from experiences, and continue to grow both personally and professionally.

Participants then engaged in a job interview outfit challenge, where they were encouraged to select suitable interview clothing within a budget. Through this hands-on activity, participants built practical decision-making skills, gained awareness of professional standards and expectations and developed a sense of ownership over their employment journey.

“This challenge made me feel proud. I looked in the mirror and saw someone ready to take the next step.” — Ryan L, 23

Participants were also given the chance to practice and refine their communication and presentation skills through sitting a mock interview and receiving feedback shortly after. This activity helped boost their self-esteem, understand areas for improvement and build a strong foundation for future employment opportunities. This activity also encouraged participants to learn the value of preparation—how researching a role, thinking through responses, and dressing appropriately can significantly improve their confidence and performance.

"At first, I was nervous, but practising the interview questions helped me feel more confident about what to say and how to say it." — Lilly, 18

‘Life admin’ is such an important puzzle of the piece as this provides an opportunity for participants to identify and obtain, with Ladder’s support, the relevant documentation they require. This includes birth certificates, tax file numbers and opening a bank account.

"I used to feel overwhelmed by everything – appointments, job stuff, Centrelink. Now I’ve got a system and support. It’s not just about ticking boxes, it’s about being in control of my life." – Ryan L, 23

Many of our program participants successfully gain casual, part-time and full-time employment following the program - 93% of young people are engaged in education, employment and training post the Ladder program.
