  • Surviving Adolescence

Surviving Adolescence

COMPLETE THE REFERRAL/ENQUIRY FORM HERE

With the support of the Latrobe Health Assembly, Ladder completed a feasibility study focused on an extension of the Step Up Latrobe Valley program. This was to implement a parenting program that would support and assist parents and allow them to better help enhance their child’s outcomes from engaging in the Step Up Latrobe Valley program.

Surviving Adolescence is a parenting program with a difference. This pilot program is facilitated in a supportive environment for 6-8 parents per program and runs for two hours once a week, for seven weeks.

The sessions delivered encourage parents to bring about positive change to the family and offer practical strategies to help strengthen and maintain a supportive relationship with their adolescents.

Session 1 - Getting to know you
Session 2 - Understanding how teens tick (stages of adolescence and the child's brain being under construction)
Session 3 - Positive Parenting
Session 4 - Boundaries, rules, discipline v punishment
Session 5 - Emotion coaching and love languages
Session 6 - Perceptions and relationship building
Session 7 - Now and into the future

Surviving Adolescence will help parents and carers understand:

  • How it feels to be an adolescent
  • The stages of adolescent development
  • Approaching conflict situations with their adolescent
  • Expectations placed on adolescents and how it impacts their behaviour
  • How their interactions with their adolescent can strengthen their relationship

"Thanks to all the Ladder staff. For me being a part of the program was a life saver that has helped my entire family." – Surviving Adolescence parent program participant

“This program shows that there is hope and help, no matter how hopeless it feels at times." – Surviving Adolescence parent program participant

“It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one having to deal with these issues” - Surviving Adolescence parent program participant

If you would like to refer into the program or make an enquiry, complete the form here.

For further information on the program, contact [email protected]

We thank the Latrobe Health Assembly for funding this parenting pilot program.
